Welcome to this blog. My hope is to provide information, support, and to open discussions on the struggles, challenges, joys, and experiences of couples managing their relationships and managing recovery. I have found very little support for couples to deal with their relationship until they are well into the recovery process, and even then, the absence of any relationship road maps leaves couples in a void.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Gottman Therapist, and a Certified Master Addiction Counselor, specializing in research-based treatment with couples affected by chemical dependency. In addition to private practice, I am a Research Associate at Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California, where I co-founded Center for Couples in Recovery with Dr. Virginia Lewis.
I currently am working with Dr. John Gottman, blending my research-based model, the “Couple Recovery Development Approach” with the Sound Relationship House model, developed by Drs. John & Julie Gottman. In addition to writing and research with Dr. John Gottman, I have developed a new workshop in collaboration with John Gottman, “A Road Map for the Journey: A Gottman Workshop for Couples in Recovery”, scheduled for debut in 2014, in Seattle, Washington, and co-sponsored by Edgewood Seattle Addiction Services.
